FCO Travel Advice Dahab, South Sinai, Egypt

This was written by Tom, on Trip Advisor a guest of Dive Urge in Dahab, South Sinai, who came here on a dive holiday 1-10th March 2014, during which time, the FCO advice was against “all but essential travel to areas which include Dahab.”  Sharm El Shiekh, situated where the main airport for this area is, is an exception.
“First of all I’m aware that people might be put off coming to Dahab due to the security advisory from the UK Foreign Office about south Sinai. Ignore that – the incident that caused it was 200km away near the Israeli border. Dahab is a) perfectly safe, and b) everybody is extremely friendly and helpful. I felt entirely safe wandering about, even along the beach at night. They also looked after me brilliantly when I got stranded an extra day by torrential rain and couldn’t get to the airport”
We hope for the sake of this amazing and unique resort of Dahab, that  the advice for this stunning area of outstanding beauty will be lifted by the officials at FCO in London very very soon before too much more damage is done to the local businesses trying to survive.
We currently have guests out here, who have not followed the FCO advice but feel secure and happy that they came, and have experienced no problems or restrictions on their holiday.
If you would like to talk with one of us here at Dive Urge, directly, please do not hesitate to call us on Skype 0207 1935020
Read on to hear more of what our guest thought….”Onto Dive Urge – they were recommended to me by a friend, and I’m extremely glad she did. I’ve never dived Dahab before and didn’t know what to expect, but they advised me beforehand in terms of gear, wetsuit thickness etc perfectly.
Turned up – collected from the airport, looked after brilliantly. Staff could not have been more helpful and treated me like family – literally nothing was too much trouble. I dived all week with Ahmed – possibly the most patient & ever-cheerful instructor/guide in the world! Everything dive related was handled seamlessly.
The rooms are basic but well appointed & comfortable – exactly what’s required on a dive holiday. There’s plenty of chill out areas as well and you’re right next to the beach. Food is the same – simple but well cooked – I ate breakfast there every day and a few lunches and dinners.
