Dive Urge… to diverge from the ‘norm’
We are Lynne & Helal & we have been together since we met in 1997 in Dahab. We have 3 kids, all made & raised in Dahab. We love Dahab & have made it our home for 26 years.
We set out to be different… to ‘diverge’ from the normal dive holiday experience.
We wanted to offer something better than the ‘en-masse style’ of normal scuba-diving holidays, with their big groups. So we set out to do it better, for both the holidaymaker & the environment & thus our unique 4-1 max ratio (diver to guide) was born.
We opened Dive Urge in 2001, following years in the pro dive community here. Lynne was a well respected PADI MSDT Instructor and Helal managed Dive Centers. Our excellent reputation grew quickly and as well as becoming a PADI Gold Palm Resort in the first year of opening, we also started our lifelong association with the UK Eco Tourism company, as they started out; Responsible Travel.
Our main focus is offering bespoke eco-dive holidays which minimize tourist impact & also help support the local community. To this end we employ all locals for our work (Egyptian & Bedouin) as well as using local services, shops and businesses too, which helps to make sure that everyone gets a slice of the cake, which in turn helps Dahab to prosper.

How We Do Things Around Here
We started Dive Urge, not to make a ‘fast buck’ but to invest in our passion for diving and Dahab into something we truly loved & believed in. We took our experiences in the dive industry and started a wish list of what we felt a dive club and hotel should be and this became the basis for our working ethos.
See Fish Not Divers
Diving in small groups of 4 max or smaller if required. Meaning you see more fish & less divers.
As well as enhancing your diving experience, our smaller groups also help to minimize damage to the aquatic environment.
Eco Responsibility
We are invested in trying to help preserve the natural beauty of Dahab, by reducing the negative impact of humans on the area. We also try to be proactive with eco concerns, like reducing plastic use.
Your Perfect Holidays
We have looked at what we want when we go on holiday, what we appreciate, love or hate. For example late check outs, when possible, so you can have your room until you leave. Who doesn’t want to get that last swim in?
We Love What We Do
We make sure that all our staff are happy & love what they do… this makes a world of difference to the service we provide.
If it isn’t fun then why do it? We employ a work hard, play hard, ethic throughout the club… we love what we do and think it shows.
Community
Teaching the next generation of Dahab caretakers is important for us. All 3 of our kids are divers.
We love our extended Bedouin family, many have worked with us since they were just boys… this is vital in keeping the local economy buoyant.
Accessible For All
We have deliberately designed Dive Urge with everyone in mind, able bodied and those who need help with mobility issues. The whole club is on one level, with ramps, grab rails, extra wide doors, etc… We did this to help everyone, making it easily accessible by all; those who are old or young, able or disabled.
Dive Urge is a labor of love which stands out from the crowds for its uniqueness in a sea of same- same places. Over the years we have kept our enthusiasm intact; our passion for diving and conservation as well as our love for Dahab. We have learned a lot along since opening in June 2001. Today, we are proud to say that is one of the longest running dive club and hotels in Dahab as well as being the safest.

Dahab is home for us. I was travelling around the world back in
1997 and came to Dahab when my friends told me ‘go to Dahab… it’s your kind of place Lynne’ how right they were but no-one ever guessed that I would still be here 26 years later, with a hubby and 3 kids!
Dahab was originally a fishing village for Bedouins, who came here, during the summer months to fish. They would then salt & store any fish they didn’t eat in small natural holes in the surrounding mountains.
This way of life went on for many hundreds of years and I like to think that this calm energy feeds Dahab to this day. You will feel it seeping into your bones after the first day, as you start to take your time to watch the sunsets & sunrises, listen to the birds settling in the trees or take a stroll into town to check out the great food options at various beach side cafes.

Dahab is a place of contrast.... the arid desert and the underwater explosion of life.... the nice restaurants by the beach and the goats roaming free on the streets... It is one of that places that will surprise you and stay in your heart forever
